Hair Envy

Pantene shampoo commercials are taunting me. I'm seriously starting to get hair envy. I've had long hair my whole life, and I'm starting to realize that it will take several years to get back to my normal hair. Ouch. It's the little things that ground you back into reality. Oh well. Worse things have happened...literally.

I wonder how my hair will grow out with this massive scar. I'm I going to be able to comb-over my scar like Donald Trump? I basically have a center part due to the scar, but I'm more of a side part kind of girl. I'm not going to lie, I seriously worry about my hair. Foolish, yes, but I am a woman, and us women want to feel attractive.

Seriously. What the heck am I going to do with this scar? The good news is that my makeup covers my braille face. And it's getting a lot better. I guess I need to deal with one crisis at a time.

Did I mention that my first brain surgery was an awake craniotomy? I keep dreaming about the part of the awake surgery, the conversations, what it looked like, the whole thing. I've got to tell THAT story. Now, for a nap.

  2. I think in time, the hair follicles that are close to the scar will sort themselves out and start to grow back in as well. So I don't think you'll always have as much of a line in your hair as now. And, your hair is growing much faster than mine does! I had stitches and a scar in my head several years ago, and it all did get better with time, even with slow hair growth. Just look at all the hair styles you'll get to play with as you work your way back to long hair! (We'd never cut it, just to try a new style...)

  7. It is great to see your gorgeous face. They make some pretty great wigs these days. You can be a red head, a blonde, pink hair, short hair, long hair whatever you want. What a gnarly scar.
Looking forward to hearing your story about your surgery while you were awake. Can't even imagine what that was like.
    Take care.

  10. Jess, you are gorgeous! I'm sorry about the scar and I don't know what to tell you about it. But maybe it can serve as sort of a badge of honor or something (for a bit). To let you know that you need to keep things easy when you get ants in your pants, a reminder that you are the strongest woman on the planet? It is still so new that most likely time will help A LOT. It's not silly to worry about at all, you're a girl! But you do look so darn cute with the do . . . not easy, but no surprise! AND you just keep improving with each post, you are doing amazing! Love seeing pics of that face. :)

  11. I'm SO sure the hairs around the scar will grow back. I watched my husband's incision along his sideburn area start with zero hair and gradually get filled back in to cover the scar. It takes time for those poor confused hairs to sort it all out!

I also love seeing photos of you. How many of us could look so good under these circumstances???

  12. You are the most amazing woman, beautiful inside and out. I love the pic you put on facebook when you first cut your hair. My first thought was "she's gorgeous. My second favorite is the first one of this post. But your true beauty radiates from inside. God Bless you. You're a true inspiration. - Paula

  13. Do you like snakes? I can't remember. If you do you could have a really bitchin mosaic colorful snake tatooed around your head and then when your hair gets longer and thicker as it certainly will (with your mom and dad's great heads of hair!) it could be like a wonderful garden snake slinking through the garden. But wait, do Stewies like snakes . . . xoxoxo

  14. You may see a scar or what you call braille face, but the rest of the world sees a gorgeous woman both inside and out. You are beautiful.
